Start An Employee Recognition Program
Many companies have employee recognition programs in place. Employee recognition is one of the best ways to keep up employee morale, which in turn keeps up productivity. Companies as large as the government have employee recognition programs in place, as do many small companies.
Types of employee recognition programs
Some companies recognize their employees with an Employee of the Month kind of program. These types of programs encourage employees to meet certain goals and to excel in their duties throughout the month in order to have their picture posted for all to see, get a special parking space, receive a pay bonus, or some other sorts of special perks reserved only for the employee of the month.
Other companies’ employee recognition programs are an annual event. Some might host a banquet once a year and recognize their star employees at the banquet in front of all of the employees and their families. Others may quietly add a yearly bonus as a form of employee recognition in their best employees’ paychecks. Yet other companies give out employee recognition bonuses as they are earned for quality of work, completed projects, or to someone who has taken on an additional responsibility that wasn’t in their job description handbook.
Starting an employee recognition program
If you are a business owner and would like to begin an employee recognition program at your company, there are a few things you can do to get one started that will work well for your company and budget, as well as encourage your employees to participate. The first thing you could do is to make up some kind of questionnaire that your employees could fill out that asks them what kind of extra perks they would like to see as part of an employee recognition program and give several choices for them to choose from. This will give you an idea of the kinds of things that they would be willing to put in some extra effort to earn.
Once you have begun an employee recognition program at your company, make sure that it is ongoing and not just something that you give a whirl and then give up on. You can ensure that the program is one that employees will understand by making the program one of the policies outlined in your employee handbooks. This will also make it easier for you to manage your employee recognition program easily and without fail.
